The traditional model of training people up for a lifetime of ministry was just to send them off to Bible college to do a three or four-year degree and then send them out into ministry or the mission field. While that might work for some people, is it the best, or only training? I don’t think so. I think you are much better off testing the waters first.
In the life and teachings of Jesus we see both extreme compassion, acceptance and grace towards those who are ostracised and condemned by society; yet at the same time a firm, unshakeable commitment to God’s moral standards. That meant he never shied away from calling sin what it was, and calling people to repent. Because of this, I believe that grace and acceptance are not mutually exclusive to holding to a firm, even controversial moral position.
AFES loves connecting with year 12 students and we have new AFES Connect Zines to help us do just that. These cards have great pictures and real life stories from University students.
The actions of the Islamic State are in the news every day at the moment. This may be making you think about Islam and what it really teaches. The Engaging with Islam course will help to answer your questions.
I first heard of Adobe Voice a little while ago. The next day, after a few hours of playing around with it, I released this ad:
Videos are hard to beat
Videos are great. As a mode of communication, they’re hard to beat. They’re engaging, memorable, accessable to anyone with a smartphone, easy to take in and easy to share.
I love student stories!
It's awesome to be part of what God is doing among students in Australian universities.
And I especially love stories of students living and speaking for Jesus.
For me, the momentous news about our Lord Jesus – focusing on his life, death and resurrection, and shot through with wonder at all God does and shows himself to be in him – is news worth sharing, among university students and beyond.
Do you have any particular questions or problems with your campus social media that could be answered at Senior Staff Conference this year?
Im doing a short 2 min part of our AdMinistry time slot at SSC next week, but Im not sure what would be most helpful for you to hear!
Or, maybe one of these describes you and Facebook?
Wondering what songs to sing for MYC/ Summit?
Here are a few hymns that our speaker for NTE this year has requested.
Wouldn't it be great if we all turned up at NTE knowing these songs and being able to confidently sing them together.
Why not introduce them at this year's Summit / MYC?
Also in this series
I figured a series on making great videos should probably include... video! So here you go.
Here we demo a cheap lapel microphone hooked up to an iPhone. Yep iPhone. If your campus is thinking about getting a video camera, I say NOOOO! Chances are, someone will have an iPhone, or if you're lucky a DSLR with video mode. This mic will work with either of them... sorry Android people (myself included).
