What is a Uni Group?
What actually happens in AFES groups? What do we do?
What if uni isn’t just about your degree, but discovering something bigger? Your plans, your future – they’re not meant to be detached from the one who made you.
AFES groups are here to help you lift your eyes up from uni’s daily hustle to see Jesus – the one who gives meaning to it all.
New doors open when you start uni – new experiences, new challenges, new friends. Whether you’re a committed Christian or just curious, AFES groups are communities where you will be known, supported, and invited to belong.
Welcome to Australia! Moving overseas for university is a huge change. Whether you feel excited, overwhelmed, or a bit of both, AFES groups are a great place to find a welcoming Christian community here in Australia.
Uni is a completely different environment to what most people are used to but being part of the Evangelical Union on campus certainly made the transition easier, as everyone is extremely welcoming and willing to help you out, directing you to classes and more. It has certainly helped me to grow in my faith and challenged me consider the bigger picture of how I might be serving Jesus as Lord in my life.
Student at Sydney University
I found out about Campus Bible Study at a BBQ at Orientation Week. It took me a while to start regularly coming along to the Bible studies and Bible talks, but after some encouragement, I joined a Bible study with other first year students in my faculty. It really helped me make friends when I didn’t know anyone from Sydney after moving here from Newcastle.
3rd Year Student at UNSW
Being regularly involved with Port Macquarie Christian Students (PCS) has been a huuuuuge encouragement to my spiritual walk with Jesus. It has enabled me to make great friends that have been able to support and encourage me through uni and day to day life. It has also let me receive suuuuper solid bible teaching each week that has expanded my knowledge of God and deepened my relationship with him, and given me tools and strategies to talk to friends at uni about Jesus.
2nd Year Student at CSU, Port Macquarie
After Year 12, I went on a camp for high school leavers where we were strongly encouraged to get involved in uni ministry – if not now, when? I was really convicted of how important connecting with Christians is at uni.
2nd year Education and Arts student at Australian Catholic University
You’re not in school anymore, and it can feel like starting from ground zero. After years of seeing the same faces, you might suddenly know no one. That’s normal! Whether you’re relieved to start fresh or feeling a bit homesick for the familiar, here are five practical steps to help you make friends, and build […]
There’s a really unique opportunity for evangelism at university — but you need to first take your seat, writes Sherwin Titus. I have a confession to make: I’m not much of an evangelist. Sure, I’ve shared the gospel with people, but I’m always second-guessing myself, I’m always replaying conversations that I’ve had – and wishing […]
Starting university is exciting, but can be a little overwhelming. You’re stepping into a world of independence, new ideas, and new experiences. Beyond that though, uni is also a time when many students start asking deeper questions: These aren’t questions that your degree will wrestle with, but life-shaping ones, and uni is the perfect place […]
In a world full of noise and competing claims, spend time hearing from the Bible and seeing how God speaks clearly, confidently, and graciously today. Through main sessions, strand groups, electives, and shared life, at NTE you’ll be transformed by the gospel, trained in the gospel, and sent with the gospel back to your campus.
The Australian Fellowship of Evangelical Students (or, AFES) exists to proclaim Jesus Christ at university. We’re a network of 60+ student communities that equip and train students to share their faith on campuses throughout Australia.
